Kasym Otegenov is a retired badminton player from Kazakhstan. He was Ruslan Ilyakov's coach until his retirement in 2023 due to a knee injury. When Ruslan left for America "on vacation", Kasym followed after him, hoping to keep him out of trouble.

Kasym is the only person capable of controlling Ruslan's hot blooded genius. Though he can't speak English, he tags along with Ruslan to his treatment sessions to stop him from getting into confrontations, which he is very prone to doing.

Unlike his pupil, Kasym is level-headed and calm. He is rarely nervous or stressed.
